Heat pump rebate calculator

Pick your state, system type, and household income. We'll subtract every incentive you qualify for — HEEHRA, state programs, and utility rebates — to show your real out-of-pocket cost. The federal §25C heat pump tax credit was repealed for installs after Dec. 31, 2025 and is no longer included.

Used to determine HEEHRA eligibility (under 80% area median income).

How the math works

We start with the average installed cost for your selected system type (ducted, ductless, or geothermal), then subtract incentives in this order:

  1. HEEHRA rebate — up to $8,000 for households under 80% area median income, where the program is still accepting applications in your state. Federally funded, state-administered. Lives in each state's rebate list — a few states (including California) have already moved to a waitlist as funds were exhausted.
  2. State + utility rebates — vary by ZIP code, utility provider, and system efficiency rating. We sum currently-open non-income-qualified programs for your state and add income-qualified amounts when applicable. Waitlisted, closed, or expired programs are excluded.

Numbers are estimates. Stacking rules change frequently — confirm with your installer and utility before signing. For the full breakdown by state, see rebates by state.

FAQ

The calculator uses average installed costs by system type and subtracts only the rebates that are currently accepting applications in your state. State and utility rebate amounts are sourced directly from program pages and re-verified on a rolling audit schedule. Numbers are estimates — the final amount depends on equipment efficiency tier, your contractor, and which programs you qualify for at install time.
